Wrote this up because I had to learn it the hard way and I figure newer folks might benefit. First crypto deposit of my life last month, £400 worth of USDT to a UK-facing sportsbook with crypto support. Here's what I got wrong.
1) I bought USDT on Coinbase UK, then sent it directly to the operator. Cost £8 in fees and took 14 minutes total. What I should have done: bought USDT on Kraken or Bitstamp where the spread is tighter, would have saved £4-5. 2) I sent USDT on Ethereum mainnet because Coinbase defaulted to it. Gas fee at the time was £6. If I'd selected Tron (TRC-20) the fee would have been £0.80. 3) I assumed all operators accept any USDT network. Many don't — some are ERC-20 only, some TRC-20 only, some both. Always check before you send. 4) BetPanda doesn't accept crypto at all, despite what some affiliate sites claim. UK regulated sportsbooks are essentially crypto-free.
The deposit worked, the play was fine, the withdrawal cleared in 23 minutes. But I left £10-12 on the table due to network choice and exchange spread. Lessons for next time.
